The following announcement explains how St Patrick’s Missionary Society formally commits itself to Divestment.
What is divestment?
Divestment is the opposite of investment – it is the removal of investment capital from stocke, bonds or funds. The global divest-invest movement is asking institutions to move their money out of oil, coal and gas companies for both moral and financial reasons.
On 3rd October 2017 forty ‘diverse Catholic institutions’ pledged themselves to divest from companies involved in fossil fuels. Others have signed up earlier.
Of significance, if you look at the graphic below you may notice that there is one organisation listed from Kenya. That is St Patrick’ Missionary Society.
