We are an international missionary Society that has worked for over ninety years in various countries in Africa, South America and the Caribbean. Founded on St Patrick’s Day 1932, we continue the work of spreading the Gospel, following the words of Jesus: Go, therefore, make disciples of all nations; baptise them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, and teach them to observe all the commands I gave you. And look I am with you always; yes, to the end of time. (Matt 28:19-20)
We involve ourselves in any aspiration that aims to advance people’s lives, both spiritually and materially. Our concern is for everyone, but especially for those whose lives are affected by poverty, disease, famine or displacement.

St. Patrick's Missionary Society in South Sudan, 1983 to 2022

In 1983, six Irish missionaries joined Bishop Paride Taban in Sudan, working alongside local people. Civil war soon forced them into a life of displacement and danger, facing bombings, ambushes, kidnappings and armed groups. When fragile peace returned in 2003, Paride Taban and his staff (priests, sisters, lay missionaries, medical personnel and many others) choose the latter: the sick who need treatment, and the youth who see their future falling apart due to corruption, forced marriage and a new civil war.
